Yorùbá Festivals

Festivals (ọdún) are the heartbeat of Yorùbá communal life — spectacular annual celebrations that honour the Òrìṣà and ancestors, renew social bonds, and pass tradition to the next generation through music, masquerade, and ritual.

Ọ̀ṣun-Òṣogbo Festival

Held each August along the Ọ̀ṣun River, this two-week festival honours the goddess Ọ̀ṣun and draws devotees and visitors from around the world. The sacred grove of Òṣogbo, where it culminates, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site — a living sanctuary of Yorùbá spirituality and art.

Egúngún Masquerades

The Egúngún festival celebrates the ancestors, who return to the community embodied in spectacular masqueraders draped in layered, richly patterned cloth. Through dance and blessing, the living and the dead are reunited, and the community's continuity is affirmed.

Odún Ifá and Local Celebrations

The annual Ifá festival renews the community's relationship with Ọ̀rúnmìlà and destiny. Across Yorùbáland, countless local festivals honour town deities, mark harvests, and celebrate kingship — each with its own music, foods, and sacred rites.
